Belmore Falls lookouts & short walks
Guide updated · Park conditions, track status, entry fees, camping availability, facilit…
Formed lookouts and short walks at Belmore Falls — gorge and waterfall views on the Robertson / Kangaroo Valley approach side of Morton. Stay on signposted platforms; do not invent base-of-falls access.
- Failure modes: Forcing Belmore after a slow Fitzroy morning because the itinerary “said combo.” Treating Belmore as a casual Pigeon House warm-up from the wrong gateway.
- Pairing ban: Pair with Fitzroy lookouts only. Ban: same-day Didthul summit.
- Turnaround: If the first lookout is enough and anyone is cooked, stop. Second waterfall is optional.
- Official vs the sign: NPWS + on-site signs win. Planning from official pages — not a field diary.
- Easy to moderate lookout walks — [VERIFY] live NPWS grades
- 45 minutes–2 hours typical for lookouts — [VERIFY]
- Short lookout-focused walks — commonly under a few kilometres total depending on which signed paths are open; [VERIFY]
- Effort: easy
- Best for: Second waterfall stop, photography, Robertson / Kangaroo Valley based visitors
Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on NSW National Parks (nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/morton-national-park) and Park Alerts before you go.

Where you start
Belmore Falls lookout / day-use access
Signed lookout parking and short walking paths when open. Confirm access roads and track status on NPWS — weather and works close sections.
How to get there
- Drive via Robertson, Kangaroo Valley or other Southern Highlands local roads to Belmore Falls access — [VERIFY] your route for closures and conditions.
- Often combined with Fitzroy Falls the same day; build winding-road time into the plan.
- Entry fee rules can vary by precinct — [VERIFY] current NPWS fee wording for areas you enter.
- Park only in designated areas; do not block narrow highlands roads.
How to do it (step by step)
- Check Park Alerts for Belmore (and Fitzroy if stacking).
- Wear grip shoes; carry a shell. Keep children supervised at every edge.
- Use formed lookouts only. Photograph from stable ground behind barriers.
- If weather or closures kill the view, leave — do not scramble for a better angle.
- Recover in Robertson or Kangaroo Valley rather than adding a third cliff product after dark.
What to expect
Belmore is a lookout-forward waterfall stop. You come for gorge scale and falling water from formed viewpoints, not for a multi-hour wilderness traverse.
Facilities are simpler than Fitzroy’s visitor centre precinct — plan toilets and food around gateway towns.
Operator’s reality check
If Fitzroy already filled your waterfall appetite and the weather is turning, skipping Belmore is allowed. Two rushed, wet, cranky lookouts beat one excellent one? No.
Always [VERIFY] open tracks. Do not use old blog “secret” paths.
Combo day tips
Fitzroy + Belmore is a classic highlands falls day when alerts and energy align. Decide order based on weather, parking and which view you care about most in good light.
Do not also force Bundanoon full network walking the same afternoon unless the group is unusually strong and the start was early.
Best conditions
Clear or partly cloudy days after rain can boost waterfall flow — but increase slip risk. Balance drama against safety.
Winter needs warm layers; summer still needs sun sense on exposed lookouts.
What to pair
Fitzroy Falls lookouts. Robertson pie / café culture as recovery. Skip same-day Pigeon House.

Extra tips
- Best as a focused stop, not a rushed checkbox between five other places.
- Fog and rain can erase the waterfall view — still pretty, still slippery.
- No pets. Pack out rubbish. Respect other visitors on small platforms.
- Morning light and weekday visits often feel calmer than peak Sunday midday.
Often paired with Fitzroy lookouts— only if energy and weather allow.
